They are going to get a lot farther this time, I think, for two reasons. Firstly, a lot of people take the fact that quantum theory is horrendously difficult and often incomprehensible to mean that it makes no sense whatsoever and must therefore have been invented by a higher intellect to torment the punier ones later evolving in its image. And secondly, unlike biologists, who tend to be a secular lot on the whole, physicists tend to Deism. Not that I'm suggesting this automatically makes them vulnerable to potential complicity in scientific fraud... oh, wait, yes I am.
