After almost eight months I am now reviving my blog. Whether or not I still have an audience is entirely another issue. A half-year of itinerant travel is finally over and I'm back in Texas and the rains.
My decision to revive the blog is driven by the re-emergence of the creationist threat to Texas public schools (and, with luck, to a lesser extent nationally). The religious right has taken over our State Board of Education. Over the next year I will use this blog to communicate what is happening here--and, more often than not, ask for help!
Hi Sahotra.
John Wilkins is linking to you( http://scienceblogs.com/evolvingthoughts/2007/07/travel_and_stuff.php ), so this should help boost your traffic.
McLeroy's election has garnered quite a bit of notice around the blogosphere, so I'm happy that this topic has brought you back.
I'm a biology student at UT, and I'd be happy to help you out any way I can (testify at textbook hearings?). I've coordinated a bit with Dr. Hillis about this subject and just recently emailed him about McLeroy. He agrees that we should be expecting another attempt to get creationism or ID in public curriculum.
My tentative prediction is that the Discovery Institute will contact McLeroy to try get their new "textbook" Explore Evolution* included as some sort of supplementary material for high school biology classes.

I'm trying to get my hands on a review copy of EE, but no one from the DI has returned my email yet.
